<br />4 3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 9, 1984 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, October 9, 1984, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, as fol- <br /> <br />lows: William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council <br /> <br />approved--as recorded-- the minutes of its regular meeting held September 25, 1984. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />petition recently filed by Mr. Willie C. Johnson, Jr., and recommended for Council's <br /> <br />approval by the Planning Commission (subject to certain conditions), seeking the closing <br /> <br />and abandonment of that section of Lincoln Street which abuts Lot No. 29, owned by <br /> <br />petitioner. There being no objections registered by any citizen to this proposed closing, <br /> <br />Mayor Cole declared the public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unani- <br /> <br />mously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendations in this matter <br /> <br />and, to effect same, adopted the following ordinance: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this ninth day of October, 1984, that the <br />section of Lincoln Street which abuts Lot No. 29 thereon, owned by Mr. <br />Willie C. Johnson, Jr., situated at Lincoln and Letcher Streets, be-- <br />and is hereby--vacated and abandoned, contingent upon reservation of <br />sufficient area to provide a turnaround as well as upon preparation of <br />appropriate maps reflecting the combining of the street section hereby <br />closed with the remainder of said Lot No. 29. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after October 10, 1984. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendations on the following <br /> <br />street-alleyway closing petitions, Council called for duly-advertised public hearings <br /> <br />thereon to be conducted at Council's forthcoming October 23rd regular meeting: <br />
