<br />~)86 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 24, 1984 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, July 24, 1984, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William C. <br /> <br />Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. <br /> <br />Wi 11 iams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, among whom were <br /> <br />representatives of the governing body and administrative staff of Henry County (Mr. Sammy <br /> <br />Redd, Chairman of the Henry County Board of Supervisors; Messrs. Francis Zehr, S. E. Moran, <br /> <br />and Robert Scott, members of the Board of Supervisors; Mr. Dale McGhee, County Attorney; <br /> <br />Mr. C. Lee Lintecum, Henry County Administrator; and Mr. William Turner, County Planning <br /> <br />Director), invited to consult with Council on a scheduled agenda item (pertaining to Mar- <br /> <br />tinsville Cablevision and its recently-proposed-and/or-effected programming changes), <br /> <br />Council recognized Mr. John W. Bowles for his outstanding service to the City as the City's <br /> <br />Animal Warden from December of 1963 to the date of his retirement in May of 1984 and, <br /> <br />through Mayor Cole and City Manager Edmonds, presented to Mr. Bowles a token of appreciation, <br /> <br />as did Police Chief Terry L. Roop on behalf of the Police Department, within which department <br /> <br />Mr. Bowles worked as Animal Warden the last four years of his employment. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its special meeting held July 5, <br /> <br />1984, and (of) its regular meeting held July 10, 1984. <br /> <br />a petition <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on / filed by <br /> <br />Mr. L. D. Fisher, (through his agent, Mr. Dewey Baldwin), seeking the rezoning of lots Nos. <br /> <br />12, 13, 25, and 26, situated off the east end of Valleydale Drive, from "R-9 Residential" <br /> <br />to "P-2 Professional", which petition carried the Planning Commission's recommendation for <br /> <br />Council's approval. There being no persons registering any objections to the proposed <br />
