<br />~3 f <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 12, 1984 <br /> <br />-. <br /> <br />affiliated coal mining properties; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, APCo and these customers have negotiated a settlement <br />of the reserved issue which extends the moratorium on rate in- <br />creases agreed to on April 28, 1983, to January 1, 1985; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, that a settlement agreement between Appalachian Power <br />Company, the City of Martinsville, and certain other electric <br />power customers of APCo, a copy of which is attached and incor- <br />porated herein by reference, be, and the same hereby is, <br />accepted and approved; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager, Don R. Edmonds, or <br />Mark D. Nozette, Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />be and they hereby are authorized to execute the settlement agree- <br />ment and other related contracts and agreements on behalf of the <br />City. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Oakes announced that he will be attending, on June 22, 1984, a meeting of the <br /> <br />VML Legislative Committee, of which he is a member. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds announced that, prompted by a suggestion from Councilmember Severt, <br /> <br />that the Police Department's telephone number will be changed (effective August 1, 1984) <br /> <br />to a number more easily remembered by the public (than the present number) and that <br /> <br />methods of publicizing this change to the general public are in motion. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds reported, too, on the successful blood donor "drive" sponsored on <br /> <br />June 11th by the City under the supervision of, and coordination by, Mr. James W. Hopkins, <br /> <br />Assistant to the City's Public Works Director. <br /> <br />City Manager Edmonds also reported that residents of the 800-900 blocks of Spruce Street <br /> <br />are highly complimentary of the City and its street work forces in connection with the <br /> <br />on-going street improvements being made by the City within this section of Spruce <br /> <br />Street. <br />
