:33

TUESDAY

MAY 8, 1984

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,

with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 8, 1984, in the

Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz.,

William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; L. D. Oakes, Vice-Mayor; Henry C. Reed; Eliza H. Severt;

and Francis T. West.

After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council

unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held April 24,

1984, and of its special meeting held April 26, 1984.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that a property

rezoning petition filed by Mr. & Mrs. A. C. Hall be approved, in which petition is

sought a rezoning of Lot No. 42 at 807 Starling Avenue from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2

Professional", Council directed that a duly-advertised public hearing be conducted on

this petition at Council's next regular meeting rescheduled for Monday, May 21, 1984,

in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.

Council acknowledged receipt of the following response by the Henry County Public Ser-

-

vice Authority to the City's counter-proposal (see Council minutes of April 10, 1984)

to the Public Service Authority regarding sewage treatment facilities (i.e., proposed

"diversion" of flows and expansion of facilities):

In a meeting on 24 April the Henry County Public Service Authority
considered the City's counter-proposal of April 10 regarding the
diversion of wastewaters from the City's Jones Creek Interceptor
to the Authority's Koehler Sewage Treatment Plant, and although no
action on the matter was taken at the April 24 meeting, the Authority
has subsequently directed me to advise you that the City's counter-
proposal of April 10 was denied for essentially the same reasons that
the City denied the Authority's request of March 30 - because it pro-
vides no remedy for the Authority's future need for increased waste-
water treatment capacity in the City's sewage treatment plant.
