167

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 1985

11. Various educational programs, present and proposed, including the
now-being-organized academic team competition among area high
schools, initiated by personnel of the City School System.

12. Population chart (for the City School System) for the years 1975-76
projected through 1989-90, plus the distribution by race of students
among the various grade levels and schools, plus the distribution of
personnel by positions for the years 1977-78 through 1985-86,
reflecting some decreases in number of classroom teachers and admin-
istrative personnel but an overall increase of 5-plus total in the
regular programs, generally as a result of State-required programs
added and/or enlarged during the period.

13. The current PARENTS AND TOTS TOGETHER PROGRAM (P.A.T.T.) to prevent
educational neglect in the homes and to provide preschool experiences
in an effort to help prevent subsequent failures in school.

14. Evaluation procedures for the school system, providing for accredi-
tation and administrative reviews.

15. Computer equipment inventory by schools.

16. Motor vehicle inventory and vehicle usage purposes.

17. Evidence of inaccurate financial forecasts made on the State level.

In addition, the School Board requested that, beginning with the next budget year (1986-87),

Council authorize and direct the re-establishing of a separate Textbook Fund which the

Board maintained is a self-supporting venture but requires separation from the regular

School budget.

At the conclusion of this presentation, and before declaring this meeting adjourned, Mayor

Cole urged that in the inter-relationship activities involving both the City and the School

Board, and particularly in the budget processes, every effort be directed toward achieving

full and continuing cooperation.

Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned.

/"'~j,:r;" C'i~rk of Council
',------
