This new <br /> <br />amendment liberalizes the present requirements of 30 feet to 15 feet from <br /> <br />the street right-of-way line. It was noted that about fifty percent of <br /> <br />the signs on Starling Avenue would be affected, as well as some on Fairy <br /> <br />----- <br /> <br />Street and Brookdale Road. Upon motion by Councilman Groden, seconded by <br /> <br />Councilman Oakes and unanimously carried, the Council <br /> <br />adopted the <br /> <br />following ordinance: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled, that Section X, Signs, of <br />the Zoning Ordinance regarding size, height and location in the <br />Professional and Residential-Professional districts be amended, <br />as follows: <br /> <br />D. Signs permitted in districts. <br /> <br />1. a. Signs for buildings occupied by two or more <br />independent businesses in the P-1 Professional <br />District, P-2 Professional District and RP-1 <br />Residential-Professional District shall not <br />exceed one (1) square foot of sign area per one <br />(1) lineal foot of building frontage; and signs <br />for single occupancy buildings shall not exceed <br />thirty (30) square feet in area. Signs shall <br />not exceed ten (10) feet in height and shall be <br />located a minimum of fifteen (15) feet from <br />street right-of-way line. <br /> <br />G. Nonconforming signs. - Delete whole paragraph. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that this ordinance shall <br />be in force on and after September 6, 1985. <br />
