<br />J26 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JULY 23, 1985 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Martinsville City Council, that our <br />community, Martinsville, Virginia, wishes to participate in the <br />Virginia Community Certification Program, and that the <br />leadership of this community fully realizes this program <br />requires dedicated effort; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that by making entry into this program, <br />we are pledging our honest efforts to become designated as a <br />"Certified" community; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that participation in this program will <br />be implemented jointly with Henry County, Virginia; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the program requires the existence <br />or formation of a Local Economic Development Organization, and <br />this governing body designates the Martinsville-Henry County <br />Economic Development Corporation as representing our community <br />for the purpose of participating in this program. <br /> <br />This resolution is in full effect upon its adoption this 23rd <br />day of July, 1985. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman Groden and <br /> <br />unanimously approved, Council recommended a favorable comment to a West <br /> <br />Piedmont Planning District Commission Clearinghouse matter related to an <br /> <br />application by Henry County for State funding in the amount of $23,102 for <br /> <br />a new Victim/Witness/Juror Systems Program to serve the Courts of Henry <br /> <br />County. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman Groden, seconded by Vice-Mayor Severt and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council authorized the City Manager to execute forms <br /> <br />necessary to expend Federal funds in the amount of $6,506 in connection <br /> <br />with the operation of the Blue Ridge Regional Library. <br />
