'')11
'. ~ ':t

TUESDAY, JULY 23, 1985

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of

the

City of

Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was

held Tuesday, July 23, 1985, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning

at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, except Councilman L. D. Oakes who

was out-of-town on business, as follows: William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor;

Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; and Clyde L. Williams.

After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present,

Council unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held July

9, 1985, as submitted.

There being no business from the floor, Mayor Cole proceeded with the

prepared agenda.

Pursuant to duly-published public notice, Council conducted a public

hearing for the purpose of abandoning an unimproved section of Clift

Street right-of-way between Cole and Paul Streets, at the request of Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Moore of 921 Cole Street. Noting there was no one present

to speak against this street closing, the Mayor declared the public

hearing closed. Upon motion by Councilman Severt, seconded by Councilman

Williams and unanimously

carried,

Council

accepted

the Planning

Commission's recommendation and approved the abandonment, subject to the

preparation of satisfactory maps by all adjacent property owners showing

the right-of-way herein abandoned combined with each owners existing

property.
