18

TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 1985

Before convening in Executive Session, Councilman Oakes asked if there was

anyone present who wished to make any suggestions as to School Board

appointments, something that would be considered during Executive Session.

There was no response from anyone.

Pursuant to the requirements of Section 2.1-344 (subsection a-I) of the

CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded

and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an

Executive Session for the purpose of considering appointments to various

boards and commissions. Upon reconvening into regular session, motions

were made, duly seconded and unanimously carried to make the following

reappointments:

Worth H. Carter, Jr. and William W. Edwards, Jr., to the

School Board for three-year terms beginning July 1, 1985; Joseph M. Vicars

to the Social Services Administrative Board for a four-year term beginning

July 1, 1985; and the following appointments: Moyer Merriman (replacing

Sarah Gilliam who chose not to be reappointed) to the Social Services

Administrative Board for a four-year term beginning July 1, 1985; and John

G. Ullman to the Piedmont Regional Community Services Board to fill the

unexpired term of Edward Covert who recently resigned, ending June 30,

1987. It was noted that the Council acknowledges with thanks the valuable

service these people render to this community by contributing a tremendous

amount of their personal time on these various boards and commissions.

There being no further business, Mayor Cole declared

adjourned.

the meeting

0~

of Council
