<br />95 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MAY 28, 1985 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />City of <br /> <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr. presiding, was <br /> <br />held Tuesday, May 28, 1985, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning <br /> <br />at 7:30 P.M., all members being present as follows: William C. Cole, Jr., <br /> <br />Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; L. D. Oakes; and <br /> <br />Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held May <br /> <br />14, 1985, as submitted. <br /> <br />There being no business from the floor, Mayor Cole proceeded with the <br /> <br />prepared agenda. <br /> <br />Upon a recommendation by the Martinsville Community Recreation Association <br /> <br />(of which there were a number of members present in the audience), motion <br /> <br />by Councilman Oakes, seconded by Vice-Mayor Severt and unanimously <br /> <br />carried, Council adopted the following resolution (properly framed and <br /> <br />presented to Mr. Mason by the Mayor) officially naming Clearview Park as <br /> <br />the J. RUSSELL MASON PARK in honor of Mr. Mason's many years of service as <br /> <br />a City employee and as a volunteer in the City's recreation program. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a successful parks and recreation program depends on the <br />support of local government, interest of citizens, industries, <br />businesses, participants, and most of all the volunteers who give <br />unselfishly many hours of their time; and <br />
