83

TUESDAY

APRIL 23, 1985

In acknowledging receipt of Finance Director Richard D. Fitts' financial report for the

nine-month period ended March 31, 1985, and after some few inquiries thereon by Mayor

Cole, Council commended Mr. Fitts for his administering of the City's financial affairs.

Councilman Williams expressed appreciation to the local news media for their publicizing

the forthcoming CROP WALK (to raise funds for charitable purposes), scheduled for Satur-

day, April 27th.

Councilman Williams also commended the Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community Commis-

sion and the City-County governments for their efforts in promoting the CLEAN UP-FIX UP-

PAINT UP campaign during the past week of April 14th-20th.

Pursuant to the requirements of Section 2.1-344 (subsectionsa-1, a-2, and a-6) of the

CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously

carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive Session for the purposes

of (1) considering nominees for appointment to the CBD Commission, (2) discussing a

lease agreement between the City and The Boaz Foundation, as it might relate to proposed

improvements to the former Joseph Martin School, now occupied by said Foundation under

said lease agreement, and (3) a legal matter, involving the proposed re-naming of Clear-

view Park. Upon reconvening into regular session, Council accepted, with regrets, the

resignation of Mr. Richard Globman as a member of the CBD Commission (effective April

1st) and, upon motion, duly seconded (and by a recorded and unanimous vote), Council

appropriated (from General Fund surplus) the sum of $20,000.00 to finance the cost of

replacing a portion of the roof at the former Joseph Martin School building as well as

the cost of certain other improvements to these City-owned premises.

Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned.

W.
