fJl

TUESDAY

MARCH 26, 1985

Mayor Cole issued a proclamation designating the month of April as "Child Abuse

-

Prevention Month" in Martinsville. Mayor Cole also posed the question as to

whether activities and administration of both the Multi-Discipline Team (on Child

Abuse & Neglect) and the Citizens Against Family Violence (representatives of

which latter group appeared before Council on March 12, 1985) might be consoli-

dated and, thereby, provide an even more effective approach toward serving the

community and citizens.

-

City Manager Brown reported that the CBD Commission, after discussing various

problems (pertaining to the operation of the Farmers' Market) with representatives

of the Farmers' Market Association, now recommend to Council the following:

1. That the lease agreement with the Association be
cancelled;

2. That the Market be open on Wednesdays, Fridays,
and Saturdays, on a first-come basis;

3. That growers of products (for sale at the Market)
obtain required Grower's Certificate Permits from
the Henry County Extension Service for filing
with the City's Commissioner of the Revenue and
for posting at the Market;

4. That the Market be made available to truckers or
buyers/sellers of produce, subject to securing
required licenses from the City's Commissioner of
the Revenue, the payment of the license taxes
therefor, and the posting of copies thereof by
sellers at the Market; and

5. That rules governing the use and operation of the
Market shall be posted by the City.

The record reflects concurrence with these recommendations by Mr. Harry Little,

Cooperative Extension Agent, by Mr. Gene Amos, Henry County Extension Agent, and

by several of the Association members, including Mrs. Ruth Draper, former Market

Manager; however, Mrs. Draper asserted that the Market operation requires con-

siderable supervision. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council

accepted these recommendations, meanwhile referring to City Manager Brown the

_._.--'"._----~_._-----
