57

TUESDAY

MARCH 26, 1985

opposition to the proposed development, citing ..... the potential increase in traffic

,,-

and traffic noise and, also, the possibility of lowered property values." The Planning

Commission reported further that, after considering the objections registered as well

as other evidence presented, it recommended that Council not approve the application,

particularly inasmuch as the Commission will attempt to reach a compromise with the

applicant to the end that a lesser number of units (than proposed) might be constructed

under a revised application. Accordingly, the Commission reported that it has con-

tinued this matter of its agenda for further consideration at its forthcoming April 2nd

,-

meeting. In acceptance of Mayor Cole's suggestion, Council postponed its scheduled

public hearing on this matter to Council's forthcoming April 9th meeting.

Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a recent

petition filed by Mrs. Ann Marks, Realtor, on behalf of Dr. Steven M. Yellin, seeking

the rezoning of Lot No. 19 at 1001 Brookdale Street from "R-9 Residential" to "P-2

Professional", which petition has been recommended by the Planning Commission for

Council's approval. There being no objections registered to this petition, Mayor

Cole declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unani-

mously carried, Council granted said petition in the form of the following ordinance

amending the City Zoning Map:

^,-

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled, that Lot No. 19, situated at 1001
Brookdale Road (i.e., Brookdale Street) be--and is hereby--rezoned
from "R-9 Residential" to "P-2 Professional".

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing,
this ordinance shall be in force on and after March 27, 1985.

Council continued, for consideration in an Executive Session, consideration of a

report (prepared by City Manager Brown) on certain matters involving the City

Treasurer's office.
