<br />51 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 12, 1985 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, March 12, 1985, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, as fol- <br /> <br />lows: William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />,,- <br /> <br />Following the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council <br /> <br />unanimously approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held February <br /> <br />26, 1985. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that the capital <br /> <br />expenditures program recently submitted by the Martinsville City School Board be in- <br /> <br />cluded in--as an amendment to--the "Capital Improvements Program" chapter of the City's <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan, Council directed that a duly-advertised public hearing be conducted <br /> <br />by Council on this proposed amendment at Council's forthcoming regular meeting scheduled <br /> <br />for Tuesday, March 26, 1985. <br /> <br />Also, in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that Redd <br /> <br />Street (situated off the north side of Fayette Street to the rear of Grace United Pres- <br /> <br />byterian Church) be vacated and abandoned, subject to certain conditions made a part of <br /> <br />the recommendation, for which closing and abandonment a petition was recently filed by <br /> <br />Mr. Luther Fontaine on behalf of Grace United Presbyterian Church, Council directed <br /> <br />that a duly-advertised public hearing be conducted by Council on this petition at <br /> <br />Council's forthcoming regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 1985. <br /> <br />Council, too, directed that duly-advertised public hearings be conducted by Council at <br /> <br />its forthcoming regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 1985, on the following <br /> <br />matters, in anticipation of receiving recommendations by that date from the Planning <br />
