<br />--- ....- '.,. <br /> <br />/1 r- <br />.' 1 <br />..... a.; <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 26, 1985 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, February 26, 1985, in <br /> <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, as <br /> <br />follows: William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />Following the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council <br /> <br />unanimously approved the minutes of its regular meeting held February 12, 1985. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />In accordance with statutory requirements and pursuant to duly-published notice, <br /> <br />Council conducted a public hearing on a petition (as filed with Council on February 12, <br /> <br />1985, by Mr. Jim Wilson, Realtor, on behalf of Mrs. Mary Sheppard) seeking the rezoning <br /> <br />of Lot No. 26 at 806 Starling Avenue from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional". <br /> <br />There being no objections registered to this petition, Mayor Cole declared this public <br /> <br />hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, and in <br /> <br />acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation that the petition be granted, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following ordinance effecting said rezoning and amending the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Map accordingly: <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of February, 1985, <br />that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be--and is hereby-- <br />amended to the extent that Lot No. 26, situated at 806 Starling <br />Avenue, is hereby rezoned from "R-6 Residential" to "P-2 Professional". <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, <br />this ordinance shall be in force on and after February 27, 1985. <br /> <br />Also, pursuant to statutory requirements and to duly-published notice, Council con- <br /> <br />ducted a public hearing on certain proposed amendments--initiated and recommended by <br /> <br />the Planning Commission--to the City's Zoning Ordinance designed to relax current res- <br /> <br />trictions on the location and construction of two-family apartment ("duplex") structures <br /> <br />
