<br />t. <br />'-' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 22, 1985 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, January 22, 1985, in the <br /> <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, as follows: <br /> <br />William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; L. D. Oakes; <br /> <br />and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council unan- <br /> <br />imously approved the minutes of its regular meeting held January 8, 1985. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Pannill <br /> <br />Knitting Company's petition--previously recommended by the Planning Commission for Council's <br /> <br />approval--seeking the closing and abandonment of that certain street identified as Spring <br /> <br />Street, situated on the south side of a recently-abandoned section of Water Street, along <br /> <br />the whole of said Spring Street petitioner's properties abut. There being no one objecting <br /> <br />to this petition, Mayor Cole declared the Dublic hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly <br /> <br />seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation <br /> <br />thereon and directed said closing and abandonment through the following ordinance unan- <br /> <br />imously adopted: <br /> <br />..,- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this twenty-second day of January, 1985, that Spring Street, <br />identified as that certain street situated on the south side of a recently- <br />abandoned section of Water Street, be--and is hereby declared--closed and aban- <br />doned. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after January 23, 1985. <br /> <br />Also, pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on pro- <br /> <br />posed amendments (initiated and recommended by the Planning Commission) to the City's <br /> <br />Zoning Ordinance, to define and regulate further the location and operation of rehabili- <br /> <br />tation facilities within the City.
