Mr. Saunders then introduced Mr. <br /> <br />Dwight Mack as the coordinator for the Southside Community Action Agency, now <br /> <br />in operation in Martinsville and Henry County. <br /> <br />In recognition and appreciation of the contributions made over the years by <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />local textile industries to the enhancing of the quality of life among local <br /> <br />citizens, Council adopted the fOllowing resolution so expressing this recog- <br /> <br />nition and appreciation in the forthcoming observance of NATIONAL TEXTILE WEEK <br /> <br />(the week of October 19th-25th): <br /> <br />NATIONAL TEXTILE WEEK <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the textile industry, the apparel industry and fiber <br />producers constitute one of the areas leading employers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the textile, fiber and apparel industries employ 20,208 in <br />Martinsville and Henry County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, textile employees continually demonstrate an unwavering <br />commitment to producing a product of the highest quality and value; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, textiles are used to make clothing, home furnishings, <br />tires, spacecraft and artificial arteries; and <br /> <br />..- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, we want to recognize the people who "Put the Pride in <br />Crafted With Pride"; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled, that we do recognize the <br />week of October 19-25, 1986, as NATIONAL TEXTILE WEEK, and urge all <br />our citizens to join in recognizing the contributions the textile <br />industry has made to the quality of life in the City of <br />Martinsville. <br /> <br />Under date of October B, 19B6, and in response to Councilman Groden's recent <br /> <br />sUggestion, City Manager Brown presented an update of prior consideration given <br /> <br />to the feaSibility of refinancing (i.e., refunding) the City's 1985 issue of <br /> <br />$1,350,000 General Obligation Water Bonds, of which a balance of $1,259,000 <br /> <br />remains outstanding and not yet due.
