'-'6~
-.. -,.-
"i.~' t

TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1986

-

City Treasurer John W. Bouldin, Jr., reported to Council that, as a result of

notices recently mailed by the Treasurer to persons owing delinquent taxes to

the City, informing such persons of such delinquent taxes and of the Trea-

surer's broadened authority to collect such taxes by distress, the sum of

(some) $28,000.00 has been collected to date (including eleven parcels "in

full") and that arrangements have been made for collection, by installments, of

-

in excess of $100,000.00. Of the notices forwarded by the Treasurer, fifty-six

persons have not responded and seven such notices were undelivered. Council

commended the Treasurer upon these efforts, which efforts will soon be

augmented through legal actions to be instituted by City Attorney Worthy toward

foreclosure processes.

Council acknowledged receipt of information from the Division of Legislative

Services, Commonwealth of Virginia, pertaining to four questions proposing

changes and/or amendments to the Constitution of Virginia, subject to the

general election to be held November 4, 1986. These questions are as follows:

1. Shall the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow any
registered voter, who has not voted in four years, to continue
to be registered (to vote) if he (or she) so requests in writing
and still lives at the address listed on registration records?

2. Shall the Constitution of Virginia be amended so that the
Virginia Supreme Court may answer questions of state law
certified to it by a federal court or the highest appellate
court of another state?

3. Shall the Constitution of Virginia be amended so that the State
may be given a right to appeal certain preliminary dismissals
and exclusions of evidence in felony cases?

4. Shall the Constitution of Virginia he amended to allow
government employees, except those who are elected or those who
are employed by an elected official, to be appointed assistant
voter registrars or officers of election?

-----.--.-~~-~-~-... - ___.__.n..._.n.___________....._

. --_._-.--'_.._-------"_.__.-._-_._-,._------~-
