<br />t30 <br /> <br />MONDAY, AUGUST 25} 1986 <br /> <br />City Manager Brown reviewed ~he role of the Cl~y government in attracting new <br /> <br />industry and/or commercial enterprises to Martinsville prior to the organizing <br /> <br />of the Economic Development Corporation; and, further, stressed the importance <br /> <br />and role of the City's Comprehensive Plan in the economic development of the <br /> <br />City. Mr. Brown also referred to the role of the City in complementing the <br /> <br />efforts of the EDC. <br /> <br />After some discussion and exchange of ideas by and among persons present, Mr. <br /> <br />Wuensch indicated a need to "hone in" on developing industrial tracts within <br /> <br />the City and to construct a "speculative" building (such as been authorized in <br /> <br />Henry County) in the City, inasmuch as most "prospects" now are interested in <br /> <br />existing buildings rather than having to construct new buildings. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the requirements of subsections (a)(2) and (a)(4) of the CODE OF <br /> <br />VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive Session, with <br /> <br />members of the Economic Development Corporation present, to discuss matters <br /> <br />relating to economic development of the community, including the acquisition of <br /> <br />real property for public purpose and/or the disposition of publicly-held <br /> <br />property. At the conclusion of this Executive Session, Council convened into <br /> <br />regular seSSion but took no action on matters considered. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />"..
