..,. .

34'4

TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 1986

,,-...

is expanded to 8 MGD; and (3) Mr. Richard P. Gravely, Jr., of 1202 Mulberry

Road, who expressed concerns that the proposed plant expansion and treatment

facilities will not eliminate the problem of offensive odors. Mr. Gravely also

expressed doubt that, as proposed by City Manager Brown, local industries will

share in the cost of color removal. In addition, Mr. Gravely presented samples

of water taken from Smith River at a point some two miles downstream from the

City's wastewater treatment plant, which samples represented a 50%-color

removal (of dyes emanating from local textile industries and processed by the

City's plant). Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council

accepted City Manager Brown's recommendation (that the City's treatment plant

be expanded to 8 MGD), subject to "reconfirmation of numbers" by Councilman

Groden and City Manager Brown.

.-

Council recognized Dr. Donald Alvey, who recently moved to Martinsville and who

recently became Principal of Martinsville Senior High School.

Pursuant to the requirements of subsections (a)(2) and (a) (6) of Section
2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly
seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an
Executive Session for the purposes of (a) considering the possible sale and/or
purchase of real property and (b) considering a legal matter. Upon reconvening
into regular session, Council took no action on these matters.

--
