<br />TUESDAY, JUNE 24, 1986 <br /> <br />,,- <br /> <br />departments, (4) the privilege of working with members of Council and being associated <br /> <br />with various other officials of the City, (5) an acknowledgment with appreciation of <br /> <br />the roles of the local news media, (6) the importance to the City and community of the <br /> <br />Economic Development Corporation, and (7) the privilege of serving the citizens of <br /> <br />Martinsville as a member of Council. <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />Pursuant to the requirements of subsections (a)(l) and (a)(2) of Section 2.1-344 of the <br /> <br />CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously <br /> <br />carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive Session for the purposes <br /> <br />of (1) considering nominees for appointment and/or reappointment to membership on cer- <br /> <br />tain boards and commissions, and (2) considering bids recently received for the pur- <br /> <br />chase of certain City-owned property. Upon reconvening into regular session, Council <br /> <br />unanimously appointed Mrs. Ann W. Marks and Messrs. George B. Adams, Jr., and George <br /> <br />C. Cox to membership on the Planning Commission for four-year terms beginning July 1, <br /> <br />1986. Council also unanimously appointed Mr. E. M. Linker to membership on the City's <br /> <br />Commercial Development Commission for the unexpired term of Mr. William C. Beeler, Jr. <br /> <br />(resigned), as well as Mr. David W. Reeves to said Commission for a three-year term <br /> <br />beginning July 1, 1986, and reappointed Messrs. Bill R. Manning and Ronald M. Stone, <br /> <br />Sr., to said Commission, also for three-year terms beginning July 1, 1986. Council <br /> <br />then unanimously appointed Mr. Bernard R. Westendorff to membership on the Patrick <br /> <br />Henry Community College Board for a four-year term beginning July 1, 1986. Noting <br /> <br />that Mr. Ronald Brugge has submitted his resignation (soon to be effective) as a mem- <br /> <br />ber of the Martinsville City School Board, Council called for a duly-advertised pub- <br /> <br />lic hearing to be conducted at its forthcoming regular July 8th meeting for the pur- <br /> <br />pose of receiving the views of the citizens of Martinsville regarding the filling of <br /> <br />this impending vacancy, pursuant to the requirements of Section 22.1-29.1 of the CODE <br /> <br />OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended). <br /> <br />- <br />
