66

MONDAY, APRIL 28, 1986

Upon motion by Councilman Oakes, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council

approved the Social Services Department's 1986-87 budget requests, as revised in

accordance with City Manager Brown's presentation at the beginning of this meeting

(see Item 3), with the understanding that the two additional persons proposed to be

employed in the program to reduce child abuse will not be employed unless and until

authorized by the Commonwealth of Virginia, in which event the Commonwealth will

share in the costs thereof as it does in the costs of other departmental employees.

It appearing to be Council's intent that City Manager Brown reduce his recommended

1986-87 General Fund budget by the difference between the sum of reductions and

adjustments already made by Council and/or directed by Council during this meeting

herein covered by these minutes and the amount of $473,000.00, City Manager Brown

noted that only 33% of the General Fund budget is under the City Manager's control

(or jurisdiction), as compared to approximately 50% of the General Fund budget being

the school budget and under the School Board's control.

Council unanimously agreed to meet in another special budget work-session meeting

on Wednesday, May 7, 1986, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 2:30 P.M.

Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned.

\\~'
U-.:.., w--'-................-_~__.-
W.
