<br />~o <br /> <br />TUESDAY, APRIL 8, 1986 <br /> <br />coordinating efforts to achieve excellence in education throughout the area con- <br /> <br />sisting of the counties of Henry, Franklin, and Patrick, and the City of Martins- <br /> <br />vi 11e. <br /> <br />In response to a "clearing-house" inquiry from the West Piedmont Planning District <br /> <br />Commission, Council unanimously voted to take the position of "not wishing to com- <br /> <br />ment" on an application to be filed for Federal-assistance funding by the Central <br /> <br />Piedmont Private Industry Council for a project identified as "Veteran's Employ- <br /> <br />ment Enhancement Program". Meanwhile, Mayor Cole indicated that he intends to <br /> <br />explore some problems and/or concerns associated with the agency and/or program. <br /> <br />Council unanimously denied a request filed by the Southwest Virginia Health Systems <br /> <br />Agency, Inc., seeking a seven-cents-per-capita (or $1,274.00) contribution from the <br /> <br />City of Martinsville, presumably for the forthcoming 1986-87 budget year, as a <br /> <br />first-time voluntary "assessment" toward the cost of operating this agency, whose <br /> <br />budget of $324,000.00 for the most part is financially supported by Federal-State <br /> <br />grants. <br /> <br />Council unanimously called for special "work-session" meetings of the Council to be <br /> <br />conducted for the purpose of studying and considering City Manager Brown's recom- <br /> <br />mended 1986-87 City Budget, as follows, with invitation to be extended to the City <br /> <br />School Board to attend one of these meetings to discuss aspects of the Board's <br /> <br />1986-87 budget requests: <br /> <br />Thursday, <br />Friday, <br />Monday, <br /> <br />April 17th, <br />April 25th, <br />Apri 1 28th, <br /> <br />beginning at 3:30 P.M., <br />beginning at 1:00 P.M., and <br />beginning at 1:30 P.M. <br />
