Council and City Manager Brown commended Chief Gregory and his department and, <br /> <br />in turn, Chief Gregory expressed appreciation of the support of his department from <br /> <br />Council and the Manager as well as of the loyal and faithful service of the departmental <br /> <br />personnel. <br /> <br />Members of Council and City Manager Brown discussed problems confronting not only the <br /> <br />City of Martinsville but also other cities and private businesses because of the recent <br /> <br />/.------ <br /> <br />escalation of insurance premiums or costs for liability coverages and worker's compen- <br /> <br />sation insurance, indicating that more emphasis might be directed to the City's employee <br /> <br />safety program and/or the need might now be sufficient for the City to employ a safety <br /> <br />director. <br /> <br />Pursuant to statutory requirements and by a recorded and unanimous action of the <br /> <br />Council, Council convened into an Executive Session for the purposes of considering (a) <br /> <br />nominees for appointment or reappointment to certain boards and commissions, (b) the <br /> <br />investment of funds, and (c) a personnel matter. Upon completing this session, Council <br /> <br />reconvened into regular session and unanimously made the following appointments and/or <br /> <br />reappointments: <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />A. Appointed Mr. Danny Turner to the Board of Piedmont Emergency Services <br />Council for a term ending December 31, 1988; <br /> <br />B. Reappointed Mrs. Marion C. Anderson, Mr. Owen Hall, Mrs. Nancy N. Hen- <br />derson, and Councilman Clyde L. Williams to the Martinsville-Henry <br />County Clean Community Commission for two-year terms beginning April 1, <br />1986, and ending March 31, 1988; and <br /> <br />C. Appointed Mr. R. Carlton DeHart, Mrs. "Liz" Hall, Mr. Perry H. Harrold, <br />Mr. Kevin B. Laine, and Miss Glenda A. Thompson to the Martinsville- <br />Henry County Clean Community Commission for two-year terms beginning <br />April 1, 1986, and ending March 31, 1988. <br /> <br />Mayor Cole then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W. <br /> <br /> <br />of Council <br />
