<br />200 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1986 <br /> <br />A regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William C. Cole, Jr., presiding, was held Tuesday, January 28, 1986, in <br /> <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, <br /> <br />viz., William C. Cole, Jr., Mayor; Eliza H. Severt, Vice-Mayor; Alfred T. Groden; <br /> <br />L. D. Oakes; and Clyde L. Williams. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Cole's cordial welcome to visitors present, Council <br /> <br />approved the minutes of its regular meeting held January 14, 1986, subject to clari- <br /> <br />fying of the portion thereof pertaining to certain renovations planned for City Hall <br /> <br />to the effect that the sum of $10,000.00 is being retained in the City's current bud- <br /> <br />get for the purchasing-installing of an adequate sound system for the Council Chamber. <br /> <br />Mrs. Nancy Henderson, Chairman of the Martinsville-Henry County Clean Community Com- <br /> <br />mission, informed Council that this commission recently received the Governor's <br /> <br />Award of Excellence in recognition of the commission's work and accomplishments during <br /> <br />the year 1985, this being the third successive year the commission has been so recog- <br /> <br />nized. Mrs. Henderson also expressed the commission's appreciation of the support and <br /> <br />cooperation given the commission by City Council and the Henry County Board of Super- <br /> <br />visors; and, in turn, Council commended the commission for its successful efforts <br /> <br />toward making the area cleaner and more attractive. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on Mr. Roger L. <br /> <br />Young's petition seeking the rezoning of Lot No.9 at 112 Starling Avenue from R-6 <br /> <br />Residential to P-2 Professional. There being no objections registered by anyone to this <br /> <br />proposed rezoning, Council unanimously accepted the Planning Commission's recommenda- <br /> <br />tion that the petition be approved and, in so dOing, adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />amending the City's Zoning Map to effect the approved request: <br /> <br />~..........,---~------_._--,~_._--_._---_.._- <br />
