<br />1:00 <br />-i1..t,l.JIO <br /> <br />TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 1986 <br /> <br />RN and President of the Sixth District of the Virginia Nurses Association, com- <br /> <br />mending the Council for its position recently taken with regard to proposed <br /> <br />uranium mining in Virginia: <br /> <br />The District VI chapter of the Virginia Nurses Association, <br />representing the counties of Patrick, Henry, Pittsylvania, <br />and Halifax and the cities (or towns) of Stuart, Martinsville, <br />Danville, and South Boston, wishes to commend the City Council <br />of Martinsville for its resolution opposing uranium mining in <br />Virginia. <br /> <br />The professional nurses of this area are gratified that our <br />Concern for the future health and welfare of the citizens of <br />Virginia is shared by the City Council of Martinsville. We <br />believe your action to be both informed and reasonable on <br />the basis of facts available regarding the hazards of uranium <br />mining. <br /> <br />Thank you for your continued interest and service in our <br />beha 1f . <br /> <br />Mayor Cole, a member of the Virginia Municipal League's Self-Insurance Committee, <br /> <br />commented on problems being faced by the Committee (as well by other groups and <br /> <br />individuals) because of escalating costs for various types of insurance coverage. <br /> <br />In accordance with pertinent sub-sections of Section 2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIR- <br /> <br />GINIA (1950, and as amended) and upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried <br /> <br />by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive Session for the purposes of <br /> <br />(1) considering nominees for appointment and/or reappointment to the Board of the <br /> <br />Piedmont Emergency Medical Services Council, (2) considering a contractual matter, <br /> <br />and (3) considering the possible sale and/or development of City-owned property. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of this Executive Session, Council reconvened into regular ses- <br /> <br />sion and upon motions, duly seconded and unanimously carried, took the following <br /> <br />actions: <br /> <br />---_____.0___...__________ <br />
