,) Q uLJ TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1987 area andt too, had received telephone calls from other area citizens, most of whom indicated to him that they would much prefer that the Lavinder Street properties not be zoned for industrial use; whereast in response to concerns expressed by Councilman Cole and Groden, Council was assured by City Manager Brown that "No Truck Traffic" signs will be erected on Sellers Street to insure safety for area children and pedestrians. A motion to approve Mr. Hussey's petition, as recommended by the Planning Commission, was carried by a vote of three-to-one (with Vice-Mayor Williams voting "nay", in keeping with the wishes of area citizens); accordingly, Council adopted (by the same vote) the following ordinance effecting the requested M-3 Industrial zoning of said properties, thus amending the City's Zoning Map accordingly: BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of December, 1987, that the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsvillet Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to the extent that Lots Nos. 117 through 140A situated on the southwest side of Lavinder Street be and are hereby rezoned from C-3 Commercial and R-6 Residential to M-3 Industrial. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council thatt an emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after December 9, 1987. After receiving a report entitiled, "Year-End Service & Spending Summary" from The Piedmont Seniors of Virginia, Inc., for its fiscal year ended September 30, 1987, and pursuant to the request of this agency, Council unanimously appropriated the sum of $2,100.00 from the City's General Fund as the City's share of "matching dollars" toward the purchase of a 20-passenger van to be used for transportation of elderly and/or handicapped citizens in the area served by the Piedmont Seniors. Representing the PSOV agency was Mrs. Alice Canupp, its Executive Director.
