<br />,) Q <br />uLJ <br /> <br />TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1987 <br /> <br />area andt too, had received telephone calls from other area citizens, most of <br /> <br />whom indicated to him that they would much prefer that the Lavinder Street <br /> <br />properties not be zoned for industrial use; whereast in response to concerns <br /> <br />expressed by Councilman Cole and Groden, Council was assured by City Manager <br /> <br />Brown that "No Truck Traffic" signs will be erected on Sellers Street to insure <br /> <br />safety for area children and pedestrians. A motion to approve Mr. Hussey's <br /> <br />petition, as recommended by the Planning Commission, was carried by a vote of <br /> <br />three-to-one (with Vice-Mayor Williams voting "nay", in keeping with the wishes <br /> <br />of area citizens); accordingly, Council adopted (by the same vote) the following <br /> <br />ordinance effecting the requested M-3 Industrial zoning of said properties, thus <br /> <br />amending the City's Zoning Map accordingly: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of <br />December, 1987, that the Zoning Map of the City of <br />Martinsvillet Virginia, be--and is hereby--amended to the <br />extent that Lots Nos. 117 through 140A situated on the <br />southwest side of Lavinder Street be and are hereby rezoned <br />from C-3 Commercial and R-6 Residential to M-3 Industrial. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council thatt an emergency <br />existing, this ordinance shall be in force on and after <br />December 9, 1987. <br /> <br />After receiving a report entitiled, "Year-End Service & Spending Summary" from <br /> <br />The Piedmont Seniors of Virginia, Inc., for its fiscal year ended September 30, <br /> <br />1987, and pursuant to the request of this agency, Council unanimously <br /> <br />appropriated the sum of $2,100.00 from the City's General Fund as the City's <br /> <br />share of "matching dollars" toward the purchase of a 20-passenger van to be used <br /> <br />for transportation of elderly and/or handicapped citizens in the area served by <br /> <br />the Piedmont Seniors. Representing the PSOV agency was Mrs. Alice Canupp, its <br /> <br />Executive Director. <br />
