<br /><~ ~) 11 <br />f..J':f <br /> <br />TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1987 <br /> <br />Other matters briefly discussed by Council pertained to (1) the status of Adkins <br /> <br />Construction Corporation's Spruce Street Townhouse Project, (2) a regional <br /> <br />seminar on groundwater protection to be conducted in Lynchburg, Virginia, <br /> <br />November 12, 1987, probably to be attended by Mr. John Dyches, Martinsville's <br /> <br />Water Resources Director, and (3) a joint meeting with the Martinsville City <br /> <br />School Board scheduled for November 23, 1987, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br />beginning at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the requirements of subsections (a)(l) and (a)(2) of Section 2.1-344 <br /> <br />of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion. duly seconded <br /> <br />and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an Executive <br /> <br />Session for the purposes of (1) considering nominees for appointment to certain <br /> <br />boards or commissions, (2) considering the selling of certain City-owned <br /> <br />properties, and (3) receiving and discussing a report on a proposed YMCA project <br /> <br />and the status of an on-going study of a proposed community multi-purpose <br /> <br />building. At the conclusion of this session, Council reconvened into regular <br /> <br />session and took the following actions with regard to the first two items cited <br /> <br />above: <br /> <br />A. Unanimously appointed Mrs. Judith K. Matthews and Mr. William <br />S. Foster to membership on the Martinsville Transportation <br />Safety Commission for the unexpired terms of Mr. Irving R. <br />McGhee (resigned) and Mrs. Grace Scott (resigned), both of <br />which terms will end December 31, 1988; and <br /> <br />B. Unanimously accepted the bids of the following bidders, <br />for the following sums of money, for the following <br />residual parcels of land along Market Street. more specifically <br />set forth in a tabulation of bids opened October 29, 1987: <br />
