<br />TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1987 <br /> <br />registered by anyone to the proposed rezoning, Mayor Oakes declared the public <br /> <br />hearing closed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />accepted the Planning Commission's recommendation in this matter and adopted the <br /> <br />following ordinance effecting said rezoning and amending the City's Zoning Map <br /> <br />accordingly: <br /> <br />/--. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this thirteenth day of October, 1987, that the <br />Zoning Map of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, be--and is hereby-- <br />amended to the extent that properties fronting the south side of Market <br />Street between Ellsworth Street and Maple Street, currently zoned R-6 <br />Residential and/or P-2 Professional, and the portion of the property <br />constituting the parking lot of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles <br />fronting the west side of Maple Street (currently zoned R-6 Residential), <br />all as delineated on a map on file with the Martinsville Planning <br />Commission, be--and are hereby--rezoned to C-1A Commercial. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after October 14, 1987. <br /> <br />Also, pursuant to duly-published notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />Martinsvi1le Bulletin's petition (as recommended for Council's approval by the City's <br /> <br />Planning Commission) seeking the abandonment and vacating of certain unused-excess <br /> <br />right-of-ways, including a former Brown Street right-of-way, situated on the south <br /> <br />side of Market Street and east of College Street. Representing petitioner was Mr. <br /> <br />William F. Stone, Jr., Attorney at Law, who previously (by letter) agreed, on behalf <br /> <br />of his client, to a proposal that petitioner, in exchange for a quit-claim deed, will <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />pay the sum of $8,636.00 to the City (being 50% of the established value of the <br /> <br />right-of-ways inasmuch as Martinsville Bulletin would be the only legitimate <br /> <br />potential buyer of said property). There being no objections registered by anyone to <br /> <br />this proposal, Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon motion, <br /> <br />duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning Commission's <br />
