<br />TUESDAY~ AUGUST 25, 1987 <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of a recommendation from the Planning Commission that Council <br /> <br />approve a petition submitted jointly by Messrs. Earle W. Greene and James W. Severt, <br /> <br />seeking the closing and abandonment of a ten-foot (10') alley situated on the south <br /> <br />side of Market Street, west of Ellsworth Street, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted by Council on this petition at Council's forthcoming <br /> <br />September 8th regular meeting. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />/,""-"" <br /> <br />In accordance with the requirements of subsections (a) (1) and (a)(6) of Section <br /> <br />2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon <br /> <br />motion (duly seconded and unanimously carried), Council convened into an Executive <br /> <br />Session for the purposes of (1) considering nominees for appointment~ as a student- <br /> <br />member, to the City's Transportation Safety Commission, (2) considering nominees <br /> <br />for appointment or reappointment to the City's Industrial Development Authority~ <br /> <br />and (3) a legal matter in consultation with City Attorney Worthy. Upon reconvening <br /> <br />into regular session, Council unanimously appointed Miss Caren Tobin,of 808 Jefferson <br /> <br />Circle and a Junior at Martinsville Senior High School, as a student-member of the <br /> <br />City's Transportation Safety Commission for the forthcoming 1987-88 school year. <br /> <br />Council, also, unanimously reappointed Messrs. James H. Johnson, Jr., and A. J. <br /> <br />(Jack) Lester to membership on the City's Industrial Development Authority for <br /> <br />four-year terms beginning September 27, 1987. Council took no action on the legal <br /> <br />matter discussed in Executive Session. <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor Williams then declared this meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />W. <br /> <br /> <br />of Council <br />
