<br />( ') <br />I '..,I <br /> <br />TUESDAY, AQGUST 11, 1987 <br /> <br />Councilman Cole, after requesting that City Manager Brown inform Council (by report) <br /> <br />of the City's policy applicable to the disposition of produce raised by the City's <br /> <br />Prison Farm, referred to Mr. Stuart Axelrod's appearance before Council at Council's <br /> <br />July 28th meeting and to Mr. Axelrod's appearances before the Planning Commission <br /> <br />regarding certain restrictions in the City's Zoning (I.e., "Sign") Ordinance <br /> <br />relating to signs and marquees, with Mr. Cole inquiring as to the status of the <br /> <br />Planning Commission's current studies from which the Commission proposes to <br /> <br />recommend "updatings" of various sections of the Zoning Ordinan~e, reportedly with <br /> <br />its recommendations to be submitted all at one time rather than in segments. After <br /> <br />some discussion of this matter, and upon Councilman McClain's motion, duly seconded <br /> <br />and unanimously carried, Council requested that the Planning Commission consider <br /> <br />proposed revisions and/or amendments to the City's "Sign Ordinance" (i.e., Section X <br /> <br />of the City's Zoning Ordinance) separate from impending revisions and/or amendments <br /> <br />the Commission expects to recommend in any-and-all other sections of the Zoning <br /> <br />Ordinance. <br /> <br />Mayor Oakes brought to Council'a attention the following matters: <br /> <br />A. The recent fiftieth anniversary celebrated by the Tultex Corporation, <br />which he attended; <br /> <br />B. A July 31st letter from The Honorable Paul Trible, Senator from <br />Virginia, on the denial by the Department of Housing & Urban <br />Development of the City's application for "UDAG" funding to assist in <br />the financing of the downtown "Hotel Project"; <br /> <br />C. The status of proposed traffic-light installations along Market <br />Street; and <br /> <br />D.
