.~ 8'
.Y

TU~SDAY, JUNE 23, 1987
,

Mayor Oakes called Council's attention to the apparent lack of pride and interest on

the part of some property owners and/or citizens in keeping premises free of

unsightly trash, with resulting adverse effect upon the city and its visitors. Mrs.

Nancy N. Henderson, Chairman of the Martinsvi11e/Henry County Clean Community

Commission, present at this meeting, concurred in these findings and offered the

assistance of her agency, as requested by Mayor Oakes, toward eliminating unsightly

conditions, and for which City Manager Brown was requested to develop a program.

Pursuant to the requirements of sub-sections (a)(I), (a)(2), and (a)(6) of Section

2.1-344 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended), and upon motion, duly

seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote, Council convened into an

Executive Session for the purposes of (1) considering nominees for appointment

and/or reappointment to membership on the Blue Ridge Regional Library Board and the

Martinsvil1e City School Board, (2) considering the selling of certain City-owned

property, and (3) a contractual matter in consultation with City Attorney Worthy.

At the conclusion of this Executive Session, Council reconvened into open or regular

session but took no action on the contractual matter; however, as to the real estate

matter, Council unanimously authorized the sale of Lots Nos. 23, 24, and 25, plus an

alley (closing of which will be sought by purchaser), all being located at the

intersection of Market & Ellsworth Street, to Mr. Earle W. Greene (Realtor) for the

sum of $31,825.00. Nominated for reappointment to membership on the Blue Ridge

Regional Library Board were Mr. George R. Gautsch and Dr. M. O. Johnson, and

nominated for appointment to said Library Board (to succeed Mr. Hal G. Prillaman,

ineligible for reappointment) was Mr. Robert W. Mitchell. There being no other

nominations, Mayor Oakes declared the nominations closed; whereupon motion, duly

seconded, Messrs. Gautsch, Johnson and Mitchell were unanimously appointed to

membership on said Board, representing thereon the City of Martinsvil1e, for

four-year terms beginning July 1, 1987.
