<br />TUESDAY, JUNE 23, 1987 <br /> <br />A regular semi-month1y meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, <br /> <br />,,-.-, <br /> <br />with Mayor L. D. Oakes presiding, was held Tuesday, June 23, 1987, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members of Council were present, <br /> <br />viz., L. D. Oakes, Mayor; Clyde L. Williams, Vice-Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr.; <br /> <br />Alfred T. Groden; and Allan McClain. <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors present, <br /> <br />among whom were current officers of the local Junior Chamber of Commerce ("JAYCEE") <br /> <br />---- <br /> <br />organization, whose president is Ms. Jennifer F. Humphrey, daughter of the City's <br /> <br />Finance Director, Richard D. Fitts, Council unanimously approved the recorded <br /> <br />minutes of its regular meeting held June 9, 1987. <br /> <br />Pursuant to applicable statutory requirements, Council conducted a dUly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing on Mrs. Dorothy L. Hairston's petition seeking the vacating/abandon- <br /> <br />ment of an unimproved 351-foot section of Kings Row Street, approval of which <br /> <br />petition the Planning Commission previously recommended (by its report dated May 22, <br /> <br />1987), subject to the stipulation that Mrs. Hairston dedicate a fifty-foot turn- <br /> <br />around on her lot No. 36. There being no objections registered by anyone to the <br /> <br />petition, as amended, Mayor Oakes declared this public hearing closed; whereupon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted the Planning <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Commission's recommendation in this matter and, in so doing, adopted the following <br /> <br />ordinance directing said abandonment, subject to the cited foregoing stipulation: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsvi1le, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-third day of June, 1987, that an <br />unimproved 351-foot section of Kings Row Street, at its northern end, be-- <br />and is hereby declared--vacated and abandoned, subject to compliance by <br />Mrs. Dorothy L. Hairston with the stipulation (imposed by the Martinsvil1e <br />Planning Commission) that she dedicate a fifty-foot turnaround on her lot <br />identified as Lot No. 36; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this <br />ordinance shall be in force on and after June 24, 1987. <br /> <br />~_... ---.--.. ..--..-----.--.~-..--..,---___'._m...._._.._..._.~ <br />
