<br />TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1987 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council unanimously authorized the filing by the City's Public Works Department of <br /> <br />two grant applications with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles seeking <br /> <br />funding in the following amounts for the following purposes: <br /> <br />A. $7,000 for purchase of a desktop computer to be used primarily for <br />traffic-related matters, such as inventory and preventive maintenance <br />of traffic signs, signals, storage, analyses of accidents, inter- <br />section analyses, trafic signal optimization; and <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />$3,800 for purchase of "mast-arm" traffic signal poles for instal- <br />lation at the intersection of East Main and Lester Streets, to improve <br />traffic signal visibility and, in turn, reduce traffic hazards and <br />accidents at this intersection. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />With appreciation being expressed to Mr. & Mrs. William R. Cox for their cooperation <br /> <br />in connection with proposed improvements to Stultz Road, which improvements are to <br /> <br />consist of construction by the City of curb-and-gutter and/or sidewalk along Stultz <br /> <br />Road, Council unanimously authorized City Manager Brown to execute--on behalf of the <br /> <br />City--a deed/agreement with Mr. & Mrs. Cox, by which deed/agreement certain property <br /> <br />is being conveyed to the City for right-of-way and, in addition, a temporary <br /> <br />construction easement is granted the City for construction by the City of certain <br /> <br />drainage facilities. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved--and authorized City Manager Brown to execute (on <br /> <br />behalf of the City)--an amendment to an existing option agreement between the City <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />of Martinsville and the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation <br /> <br />(under which option agreement the Economic Development Corporation may purchase from <br /> <br />the City various of its tracts of land situated in the City's Industrial Park), the <br /> <br />purpose of which amendment is to correct dates in Item 2 of the option agreement <br /> <br />which are conflict with the five-year contract term, i.e., commencing May 24, 1984, <br /> <br />and ending May 24, 1989. <br /> <br />Pending Councilman's Groden's return, Council continued and/or carried forward, for <br /> <br />further consideration, license taxation changes affecting local real estate agents <br />
