<br />32 <br /> <br />TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1987 <br /> <br />After the invocation and Mayor Oakes' cordial welcome extended to visitors present, <br /> <br /> <br />Council approved the minutes of its special meeting held April 21, 1987, of its <br /> <br /> <br />regular meeting held April 28, 1987, and of its special meeting held May 5, 1987. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's April 23rd recommendation that <br /> <br />Council approve the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company's application for a <br /> <br /> <br />Special-Use Permit (subject to the conditions stipulated by the Planning Commission) <br /> <br /> <br />to allow for the conduct of the 1987 Firemen's Bazaar at Lot 1A at Martinsville <br /> <br /> <br />Senior High School (being the baseball field area which abuts Fairy Street) during <br />the period June 22nd-June 27th, 1987, Council called for a duly-advertised public <br />hearing on this application and the Commission's recommendation thereon, which <br />hearing is to be conducted by Council at its forthcoming May 26th meeting. <br /> <br />Pursuant to the requirements of Section 22.1-29.1 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1959, and <br /> <br /> <br />as amended), Council directed that a duly-advertised public hearing be conducted by <br /> <br />Council at its regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 1987, for the purpose <br /> <br />of receiving views of citizens of the City of Martinsville regarding the appointing <br /> <br />and/or reappointing by Council of two citizens to membership on the Martinsville <br /> <br />City School Board for three-year terms beginning July 1, 1987. The record notes <br /> <br />that the current terms of Messrs. Ronald A. Brugge and Johnnie L.
