Following each quarterly <br /> <br />meeting, Council would have a meeting in that community beginning at 7:00 <br /> <br />p.m. The Clerk was directed to secure locations for these quarterly community <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />meetings and place on an upcoming agenda for Council approval. <br /> <br />Council next considered a request from Henry County regarding a <br /> <br />regional water and sewer authority. The Board of Supervisors has adopted a <br /> <br />motion requesting City Council to participate in an independent analysis to <br /> <br />determine if a regional water and sewer authority would be beneficial and cost <br /> <br />effective for the community. <br /> <br />Benny Summerlin, County Administrator, <br /> <br />presented an overview of the request and mentioned the Western Virginia <br /> <br />Water Authority that was recently formed to serve Roanoke City and Roanoke <br /> <br />County. The biggest concern mentioned by Council is the approximately $37 <br /> <br />million debt that the County currently has on its system. After discussion, <br /> <br />questions by Council and comments by John Dyches, Water Resources <br /> <br />Director, Council requested the matter be placed on the next agenda for <br /> <br />Council action. <br /> <br />Ruth Easley, Commissioner of the Revenue, gave an overview concerning <br /> <br />adjustments to elderly and disabled tax relief income limits and filing <br /> <br />deadlines. The schedule has not been adjusted since September 1997 during <br /> <br />which time the Social Security cost of living increases have been a total of <br /> <br />28.22%.
