<br />4) Realignment of U.S. Route 220 North, in the vicinity of Draper's Florist, to allc\'iate <br />hazardous curves, accommodate traffic flows, and develop safer highway conditions. <br />5) Realignment and improvements on U.S. Route 220 from the intersection of Route 87fRoute <br />220 South to the North Carolina line, including the alleviation of hazardous curves on <br />southbound Route 220. This project is essential to tie into the four-Ianing of U.S. Route 220 <br />in North Carolina. <br />6) Support for the design, engineering, funding and construction of Interstate 73 through <br />Henry County that follows a corridor east of the City of Martinsville and west of the <br />HenryfPittsylvania County border in an alignment that avoids large subdivisions. <br />7) Support for the inclusion of an extension of Commonwealth Boulevard to the west to connect <br />with Route 220 Bypass in the current Long Range Plan. <br />8) Support for the four-Ianing of Route 87 from Route 220 to the VirginiafNorth Carolina State <br />Line to connect to planned improvements of the road in North Carolina. The road becomes <br />Highway 14 in North Carolina. <br />9) Support for the City of Martinsville's request for the Liberty Street (Route 174fClearview <br />Drive) improvement plan. <br />10) Improvements to the Lee Ford Camp RoadfGreensboro Road (U.S. route 220fChurch Street <br />intersection in Ridgeway, near Mountain View Cemetery, to include signals and turn lanes. <br /> <br />Martinsville <br /> <br />I) Complete the Liberty Street (Route 174)fClearview Drive) improvement project Comprised of the <br />following four elements: <br />· Improvements to Liberty Street north from York Street to the corporate limits; <br />· Improvements to Liberty Street from Commonwealth Boulevard to Clearview Drive; <br />· Improvements to Clearview Drive from Barrows Mill Road to the entrance to Clearview <br />Business Park <br />2) Complete repairs to bridges at the following locations: I) bridge on Starling Avenue (Route 57/58), <br />between Aaron and Hairston Streets, and; 2) bridge on Commonwealth Boulevard (Route 457) <br />between Lester Street and Northside Drive. <br />3) Widen and realign the section of Fayette Street (Route 57) from Pine Hall Road west to the corporate <br />limits including curb, gutter, and sidewalk, and to replace an N&W Railroad underpass with severely <br />restricted clearance. <br />4) Extend Commonwealth Boulevard east to an intersection with East Church Street (U.S. Route 58) <br />5) Endorsement for the Interstate 73 project. . <br />6) Endorsement for completion of U.S. Route 58 westward to its intersection with Interstate 77. <br /> <br />Patrick Co un tv <br />I) Continue to participate in Public Private Transportation Act Proposal by Branch <br />Highways to fund and construct on an expedited timetable the four-lane improvement of <br />V.S. 58 from west of the Stuart Bypass to 1-77 at Hillsville. <br />2) Complete design and construct the proposed connector road from the U.S. 58 Bypass at <br />the intersection of Johnson Street in the Town of Stuart to Route 8 South. <br />3) Improve and install guardrail on Route 8 North, beginning approximately 1.5 miles <br />north of the intersection of State Route 605 and the Patrick-Floyd County line. <br />4) Implement critically needed safety improvements on Route 103 at the intersections of <br />State Routes 645, 649, 666, 738, and 773. <br />5) Widen and improve Route 40 beginning at its intersection with Route 8 proceeding east <br />to Griffith Lumber Company. <br />Other Primary Highway Needs <br />I) Increase the width of Routes 8 and 103 south of the Town of Stuart to twenty-four (24) <br />feet to accommodate commercial truck traffic. <br />2) Construct turning lanes, improve sight distance, and generally upgrade Route 8 south of <br />the Town of Stuart corporate limits to State Route 652 to safely accommodate the <br />current high traffic volume on this section of road. <br />3) Construct the proposed 1-73 project through Henry County to the North Carolina state <br />line. <br />
