<br />.',.~, <br /> <br />June 13, 2006 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Chief Brock has been and will continue to be an extraordinary resource for our <br />community and plans to use some of his retirement time to help recruit new members to the <br />Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, assembled in regular <br />session this the 13th day of June, 2006, that said Council wishes to recognize and express its <br />sincere gratitude and appreciation to Jerry W. Brock, for his faithful and dedicated service to the <br />city and its citizens and his efforts in making our city a better and safer place to live and work. <br /> <br />Council next considered approving the submission of an application for a <br /> <br />TRIAD Crime Prevention for Seniors grant for $2,745.92 by the Police <br /> <br />Department. The grant requires a $274.59 match from the City. Council <br /> <br />Member Ferrill moved to approve the application; the motion was duly seconded <br /> <br />and carried by the following vote, all members voting: Vote: 5-0. Yeas: (5) - <br /> <br />Cobbe, Reynolds, Roop, Ferrill, Clark. Nays: (0)- None. <br /> <br />Council next conducted a public hearing for the purpose of receiving <br /> <br />citizens interested in appointment to two positions on the City's School Board. <br /> <br />Mayor Cobbe declared the Public Hearing open. The following citizens <br /> <br />presented for consideration: Dennis Casey of 713 Windsor Lane and Sandra <br /> <br />Haley of 105 Dearborn Street. Vice-Mayor Reynolds announced that Robert <br /> <br />Williams of 1017 Country Club Drive had also submitted his application, but <br /> <br />would arrive later during the meeting. Mayor Cobbe declared the public <br /> <br />hearing closed and announced to the applicants that they would conduct <br /> <br />interviews at the end of the meeting in closed session. <br />
