<br />ARTICLE V - GOALS AND OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />GOALS: <br /> <br />To provide court referral services and other programs in an effort to improve <br />transportation safety by decreasing the number of driving under the influence of alcohol, <br />drugs and other violations of the Code of Virginia, thereby reducing crime and <br />alcohol/drug related driving incidents/crashes. <br /> <br />OBJECTNES: <br /> <br />I. To deter the motoring public from driving under the influence (DUI), and <br />involvement in other transportation related alcohol/drug incidents. <br /> <br />2. To deter those arrested and/or convicted of DUI and other alcohol/drug violations <br />from repeating those offenses. <br /> <br />3. To cooperate with and assist in training of those authorities mandated to identify, <br />apprehend and convict offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs <br />and other violations of the Code of Virginia <br /> <br />4. To facilitate the rehabilitation of alcohol/drugs and other offenders referred to <br />Dan River ASAP. <br /> <br />5. To ensure the professional delivery of appropriate intervention services to referred <br />offenders, and the maintenance of probationary supervision. <br /> <br />6. To provide for and participate in the offender tracking service of the Commission <br />on VASAP. <br /> <br />7. To participate in programs to increase public awareness of the dangers and legal <br />consequences of driving under the influence and other alcohol/drug related <br />violations. <br /> <br />8. To provide effective court and community programs, to maintain a self- <br />supporting Alcohol Safety Action Program, and to support the Commission on <br />V ASAP. <br /> <br />2 <br />
