<br />July 26, 2005 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />A regular monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on July 26, 2005, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building, <br /> <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Joe Cobbe presiding. Council Members <br /> <br />present included: Joseph R. Cobbe, Mayor; Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />and Council Members James W. Clark, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br />Following the invocation by Vice Mayor Reynolds and Pledge to the <br /> <br /> <br />American Flag, Mayor Cobbe welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br />Council Member Clark moved to approve the minutes of the July 12, <br /> <br /> <br />2005 meeting as presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br /> <br /> <br />following vote, with all members voting: <br /> <br /> <br />Vote 5 - O. <br /> <br /> <br />Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Reynolds, Roop, Ferrill, Clark <br />Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br />Danny Fore, President and CEO of the Martinsville-Henry County <br /> <br /> <br />Economic Development Corporation presented an update to Council and <br /> <br /> <br />addressed four major areas. The first area is existing industry and he indicated <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />that meetings are being held with local company representatives (five to seven a <br /> <br />month) because research shows that a majority of new jobs come from <br /> <br />expansions of existing companies and that new companies considering our area <br /> <br />are interested in talking with their peers.
