Council Member Roop moved to approve the following <br /> <br />Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, all <br /> <br />members voting: <br /> <br />Vote: 5-0. <br /> <br />Yeas: (5) Cobbe, Reynolds, Roop, Ferrill, Clark. <br /> <br />Nays: (0) None. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has modified <br />the Revenue Sharing Program in 2005 to allow a one-time opportunity for cities <br />and towns to participate; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, $50 million is available statewide for eligible maintenance and <br />construction projects under the program to be matched on a 50/50 basis by <br />localities, with $1 million being the maximum state share per anyone locality; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville has significant maintenance needs at the <br />Starling Avenue bridge and the Commonwealth Boulevard bridge estimated at <br />$1.3 million, both locations being along major thoroughfares and said work <br />being eligible as a project under the Revenue Sharing Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville desires to participate in the VDOT Revenue <br />Sharing Program and apply for funding for the bridge repair work; now, <br />therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />session assembled on July 12,2005, that it does hereby authorize the City <br />Administration to make application to VDOT for funding of the bridge repair <br />
