<br />June 28, 2005 <br /> <br />Council considered business from the floor. Chris Koumparakis, of Farmbrook <br /> <br />Road, Ridgeway, spoke regarding residential requirements of School Board members; <br /> <br />Mayor Cobbe replied that Council is following the advice of legal counsel. <br /> <br />Council Member Ferrill moved to approve the following Consent Agenda item; <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members <br /> <br />voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Clark, Cobbe, Ferrill, Reynolds, Roop; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />General Fund <br />. Accept $4,909 in recovered costs for the Senior Citizens (01100909 490801 <br />to 01714212 506016) <br />. Accept $40,000 from the Virginia Association of Police Chiefs (01103919 <br />43103 to 01311085 501200446) in Confiscated Assets for the Police <br />Department <br />School Fund <br />. Accept $9,724 in E-rate reimbursement for the schools (18103908418286 to <br />85001014568209) <br /> <br />Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, stated that the funds from the Virginia Association of <br /> <br />Police Chiefs are for "Project Safe Neighborhood" focusing on increased patrol for <br /> <br />summer. <br /> <br />Robert R. Collins, City Manager, reminded everyone of the Independence Day <br /> <br />Celebration at the Martinsville Speedway on July 1, 2005. He reported, also, that he <br /> <br />has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Virginia Local Government <br /> <br />Management Association. <br /> <br />Council Member Roop requested that the City Manager respond to a recent <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />article in the Roanoke Times regarding Hooker Field. Council Member Roop requested, <br /> <br />also, an update regarding legal opinion of reversion public referendum. Eric Monday, <br /> <br />City Attorney, stated that reversion does not require a public referendum and either <br /> <br />Councilor fifteen percent of the electorate can start the process.
