January 25, 2005 <br /> <br />A regular, monthly meeting of lhe Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was <br /> <br />held on January 25, 2005, in Council Chamber, Municipal Building, beginning at 7:30 P. <br /> <br />M., with Mayor Joe Cobbe presiding. Council Members present included: Joseph R. <br /> <br />Cobbe, Mayor; Kimble Reynolds, Jr., Vice Mayor; and Council Members James W. <br /> <br />Clark, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br />Following the invocation by Council Member Roop and Pledge to lhe American <br /> <br />Flag, Mayor Cobbe welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br />Council Member Roop moved to approve the minutes of the December 14, 2004, <br /> <br />meeting as presented; lhe motion was duly seconded and carried by lhe following vote, <br />with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Clark, Cobbe, Ferrill, Reynolds, Roop; <br />Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution declaring the week of January 30 <br />through February 5, 2005, as "Be A Hero Week" in the City, Council Member Clark <br /> <br />moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by <br /> <br />the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Clark, Cobbe, <br /> <br />Ferrill, Reynolds, Roop; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council believes that the best <br />thing about the City of Martinsville is, and always will be, its <br />citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, many of our citizens work tirelessly for the benefit of <br />their fellow man, with no regard to personal gain or publicity; and <br />WHEREAS, no residents personify that attitude better than the men <br />and women who volunteer for service with our City's fire <br />department and rescue squad; and <br />WHEREAS, there is no better calling than to volunteer with the <br />rescue squad or fire department; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Labor's, Bureau of Labor Statistics <br />predicts that the demand for EMTs and paramedics could increase <br />by 35 percent by 2012, and the demand for firefighters could <br />increase by 20 percent by 2012; and <br /> <br /> <br />
