Consider adoption of a Resolution declaring the week ofdanua,-y 30 through <br />Februa~ 5, 2005 as 'Be A Hero Week' in the City. <br /> <br />Sllmma.t'y: <br /> <br /> The City's fire department consists of paid and volunteer personnel. Over the past 10 years, the fire <br />department's call volume has increased by 400%, due mainly to the addition of the EMS program in the <br />mid - 1990s. <br /> Likewise in Henry County, the fire and EMS call volume has increased substantially during the same <br />time period. County calls are answered totally by volunteers. <br /> Public safety officials from the City and County have partnered to launch a volunteer recruitment and <br />retention initiative, beginning the week of January 30 - February 5, 2005, known as 'Be a Hero". The goal <br />of the campaign is to educate the public in the efforts of fire & EMS volunteers, increase volunteer <br />recruitment, and to encourage retention of existing volunteers. <br /> Council is encouraged to adopt this Resolution to help kick off this collaborative effort. The Henry <br />County Board of Supervisors has the same item on their late January meeting agenda.
