Phillips <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br />WIIEREAS, thc Martinsville City Council believes that the best thing about the City of <br />Maninsville is, and always will be, its citizens; and <br /> <br />~VliEREAS, many of our citizens work tirelessly for the benefit of their fellow man, <br />with no regard to personal gain or publicity; and <br /> <br />WIlEREAS, no residents personify that attitude better than the men and women who <br />volunteer for service with our City's fire department and rescue squad; and <br /> <br />~VIIEREAS, there is no better calling than to volunteer with the rescue squad or fire <br />department; and <br /> <br />~VIIEREAS, the Department of Labor's, Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the <br />demand for EMTs and paramedics could increase by 35 percent by 2012, and the demand <br />for firefighters could increase by 20 percent by 2012; and <br /> <br />WIIEREAS, the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company and Martinsville-Henry County <br />Rescue Squad are about to embark on a volunteer recruitment initiative designed to bring <br />attention and membership to our local units. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />session assembled January 25, 2005, that the Martinsville City Council declares the week <br />of January 30 through February 5, 2005 as "Be A Hero Week" in the City of Martinsville. <br />Furthermore, the Council publicly brings attention and acclaim to those who already <br />volunteer, and asks all other Martinsville citizens to consider giving their time, talents <br />and effort to becoming an emergency services volunteer so they, too, can "Be A Hero." <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />.lohnathan B.
