June 22, 2004 <br /> <br /> Council considered a request from the Martinsville-Henry County Rescue Squad <br />(MHCRS) for the City's Fire Department to begin providing transport service. Clarence <br />Monday, Assistant Fire Chief, stated that MHCRS has verified insurance coverage. A <br />meeting was held with the Fire Department, MHCRS, and Stone Ambulance Service; a <br />memorandum of understanding was adopted. All documents have been reviewed by <br />the City Manager and City Attorney. Council Member Dallas moved to accept the offer <br />of a loaned ambulance and begin transport service on July 1,2004; the motion was duly <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas <br />(4) - Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None; Abstention (1) - Cobbe, citing <br />conflict of interest. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Harry Varn, of 714 Corn Tassel <br /> Trail, representing the Martinsville Community Recreation Association requested the <br /> use of Hooker Field for a Start Musial Wooden Bat League Tournament, July 15-21, <br /> 2004. A discussion ensued regarding cost and possible volunteer support to offset <br /> costs. The Laurel Park High School Boosters Club is financially supporting the project, <br /> and gate admission fees will be collected. Council directed the Interim City Manager to <br /> meet with Mr. Yarn to pursue options. By general consensus, with no vote taken, <br /> Council approved the request if within budget. Benjamin Murdock, Executive Director, <br /> Citizens Against Family Violence (CAFV), requested that the City increase its FY05 <br /> appropriation from $11,250 to $20,000. CAFV has not requested an increase in three <br /> years. However, lack of matching funds may negatively affect grant funding, and <br /> services to City residents may not continue at the current level with current funding. <br /> Council Member Cobbe moved to increase FY05 funding by $3,750; the motion was <br /> <br /> <br />
