The education I have obtained, my experiences in <br />community service and my career opportunities have given me the necessary <br />skills needed for this appointment. I am able to work independently in <br />performance of any task and my strong work ethic would enhance 'the <br />opportunities available in this job. <br /> <br />PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE <br /> <br />Lieutenant <br />1986-present <br /> <br />C~g of Martinsville Fire Department <br />Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Currently employed as Lieutenant; EMT This position is multifaceted, involving <br />supervising and training fire fighters on an assigned shift and serving as Senior <br />Command Officer on the scene cfa fire until properly relieved by a superior <br />officer. Since becoming Lieutenant, with the help of the Volumeer Fire <br />Department, we have obtained a computer that all the men in the department feel <br />comfortable with. This acquisition has been instrumental in training and <br />furthering the technological needs of the Department. <br /> <br />Responsibilities and activities, which are not in my job description, include a <br />number of carpentry projectS, as well as repair and maimenance of SCBA (Self <br />Contained Breathing Apparatus.) This in-house maintenance has saved both the <br />department and the city money. I have served as Safety Auditor and also have <br />taken the required training for emergency medical technician. These added <br />responsibilities are noted in my personnel file by letter ofc0mmendation. <br /> <br />Carpenter & <br />Construction Foreman <br />1979-present <br /> <br />Roop Construction <br />Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Responsibilities include the implementation of proper work site safety practices <br />and the procurement of tools, equipment and materials. The construction varies <br />from home remodeling to commercial projects, thus, I must be able to satisfy the <br />customer's concerns and interact with vendors and sub-contractors to ensure <br />completion &the job in a timely and cost efficient manner. <br /> <br /> <br />
