December 9, 2003 <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by affirmative vote of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, in regular session assembled December 9, 2003, that <br />the City of Martinsville and its residents hereby commend and <br />express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Mark A. Crabtree <br />for initiating and implementing the 2003 Martinsville Mission of <br />Mercy Dental & Health Fair. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly <br /> <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas <br /> <br />(5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia and Virginia Dental <br />Foundation collaborated to provide a no-cost Dental and Health <br />Fair known as the Martinsville Mission of Mercy on November 21- <br />22, 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, the fair provided free dental, health screening and <br />health assessment services to deserving residents of Martinsville, <br />Henry County and surrounding areas at no cost to those <br />individuals; and <br />WHEREAS, more than 200 dental professionals performed over <br />1,200 extractions, completed nearly 430 surgical extractions, <br />performed 787 root canals and filled more than 450 teeth for more <br />than 900 residents; and <br />WHEREAS, over 400 more volunteers assisted in providing health <br />services, health education, fitness and diet information, blood <br />screenings, vision services and more to those in attendance at the <br />fair; and <br />WHEREAS, a large coalition of local, regional and state human <br />services organizations, health care providers, government agencies <br />and civic groups collaborated to organize, stage and operate the <br />fair; and <br /> WHEREAS, in so doing, the fair did serve a valuable purpose in <br /> alleviating and diminishing health and dental dangers for residents <br /> who might not otherwise have been able to afford treatment; now, <br /> therefore <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Martinsville, in <br /> regular session assembled December 9, 2003 does hereby honor <br /> and esteem all those who volunteered their time, service, energy <br /> and effort to make the 2003 Mission of Mercy Dental & Health Fair <br /> a successful event to aid the health and well being of the local <br /> population. <br /> <br /> <br />
