Council Member Dallas moved to adopt the following <br />Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried bY the following vote, with all <br />members votifig: Vb'~e 5 - 0; Yb~ (~) - Cobbe, D~ill'~S, Ferrill, R06P, Teague; Nays (0) <br />- None: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Corfii~br~wealth of Virginia and Virginia Dental <br /> Foundation collaborated to provide a no-cost Dental and Health <br /> Fair known as the Martinsville Mission of Mercy on November 21- <br /> 22, 2003; and <br /> WHEREAS, the fair provided free dental, health screening and <br /> health assessment services to desehiing residents Of Martinsville, <br /> Henry County and surrounding ~ii~as at no cost to those <br /> individuals; and <br />W~EREAS, more than 200 dental ~0fessionals performed over <br />1,2(~5' 'extractions, completecJ nearly 430 surgical extractions, <br />performed 787 root canals and filled more than 450 teeth for more <br />than 900 residents; and <br />WHEREAS, in so doing, the fair did serve a valuable purpose in <br />alleviating ~nd diminishing he~.lth and dental d~6~'rs for residents <br />who might not 0t. herw se have beeh able to afford treatment; and <br /> <br />Wi'i~Ri='AS, Dr. M~rk A. Crabtree, DGS, a Martinsville resident with <br />an active dental practice within the City, played an active and <br />instrumental role in developing the fair, .organizing activities. <br />recruiting volunteers and brir~ging fe'llbw dentists in[o Martinsville to <br />prOvid,e free services for area citizens; and <br />WHieJ~EAS, Dr. C~fab~ree wb~i~ed with afba human services <br />agencies and businbS§es tO secure v01untee~ housing, meals and <br />suplblies~ in order to make the fair a success; and <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Crab't~f~e constantly participated in the planning <br />arid publicity of the health fair; now, therefore <br /> <br /> <br />
