SENATE OF VIRGINIA

WM. ROSCOE REYNOLDS

The Honorable Gene Teague, Mayor
City of Martinsville
P.O. Drawer 1112
Martinsville, Virginia 24114-1112

Dear Mayor Teague:

Enclosed herewith, please find a copy of my letter of October 7, 2003 to The Honorable
Bemie Sanders. I am convinced that unless legislation like Congressman Sanders' is adopted at
a very early date, all textile and furniture manufacturing jobs presently in the United States will
disappear within the neXt twenty four months.

I ask that you have your governing body adopt a resolution in support of Congressman
Sanders' bill and that you send that to each of Virginia's thirteen representatives in the United
States Congress and ask for their help in getting the legislation passed.

I also ask that you send to President Bush and Vice President Cheney a similar request.

I am confident from previous votes by Congressman Boucher and Congressman Goode
that they will be in favor of Congressman Sanders' bill. Unfortunately, the other eleven
representatives we have in Congress which includes both Senator Warner and Senator Allen
have traditionally voted in favor of extending trade benefits to China and other nations.

I am confident that every working man and woman in Southside and Southwest Virginia
will be grateful for any help you can provide in this regard.

Thank you very much.

WRR:al
Enclosure
